GOOD NEWS: Canada Extends and Expands Open Work Permit Program for Hong Kong Residents.

Canada is extending and expanding its open work permit program for qualifying Hong Kong residents, as announced today by the Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship.

The minister announced adjustments to Hong Kong special programs, including the extension of the application deadline.

The new deadline for qualifying Hong Kong residents to apply for an open work visa is February 7, 2025.

Furthermore, IRCC announced that Hong Kong citizens who have finished post-secondary study within the last ten years are now eligible. This was previously five years.

As a result, Hong Kong residents can now earn additional work experience for a period of up to three years.
