Breaking News: Surprise Draw! IRCC invites 5,500 Express Entry candidates in the second 2023 round.

 In News

January 18, 2023 , IRCC staged an unexpected Express Entry draw, marking the second draw in two consecutive weeks. In 2023, IRCC has already invited 11,000 Express Entry candidates, which is the quickest launch of Express Entry in history.

A surprise draw.
The draw came as a surprise because it was the second Express Entry round of invites in two weeks. IRCC had just held a draw last Wednesday, January 11, in which it also welcomed 5,500 candidates. The CRS cut-off for last week’s draw was 507, implying that the CRS cut-off score has declined 17 points between draws. IRCC initially reported a score of 507 for this draw as well, but it has subsequently been changed to the proper score of 490. The draw last week was the first since November 23, 2022. Express Entry draws are held every two weeks, generally on Wednesday. The IRCC has not explained why there was a stop in draws during this time.

Today was the second Express Entry draw of the year in Canada.

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited 5,500 applicants with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 490. Because no program was stated, eligible candidates from the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), and Federal Skilled Trades Program were invited (FSTP). All of these initiatives are part of the Express Entry system.

What is Express Entry.

The IRCC designed Express Entry as an immigration system to manage Canada PR applicants wishing to work in Canada. This system allows applicants to apply for the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), or a Provincial Nominee Program (PNPs). Each draw will tailored to one of these categories, with qualified and eligible individuals drawn from the Express Entry pool.                                                  Photo from Instagram: visaca.ca

Improving your CRS score.

More invites are expected to be granted in the following weeks, months, and years, benefiting people and families all around the world who want to make Canada their new permanent home. The Comprehensive Ranking System is a score out of 1,200 that is used to compare federal economic applicants. It is a component of the Express Entry system, which was launched in January 2015 to handle residency applications. The score is used as a cut-off point in Express Entry draws. It is intended to estimate a candidate’s likelihood of economic success in Canada.
