The world’s longest-serving monarch Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain passed away unexpectedly on September 8 at the age of 96.

Britain will now plunge into ten days of mourning. The Queen’s state funeral is expected to take place at Westminster Abbey in less than two weeks.

Charles will be officially proclaimed King on Saturday. The new head of state is the 73-year-old eldest son of Elizabeth, up until recently Prince Charles, who will have a new name on the throne: Charles III.

For the current generations of the British, Elizabeth will remain the most beloved monarch. The Queen was a unifying symbol for the nation. Being on the throne for over 70 years, she played an important part in the history of her country. And, probably, in the history of the whole world.
