IRCC Updates Work Permit Instructions Under the Caregiver Pathway

 In News

May 6, 20- The Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada posted an update on the instructions under the Home Child Care Provider Pilot in the International Mobility Program, it was altered and the Eligibility section was placed at the top for easier reference by the officers.

Under this pilot, categories are divided into two categories depending on whether they have eligible Canadian work experience or not:

Category A – a group of applicants, whether they are inside or outside of Canada who has 0 to 23 months of eligible Canadian work experience.

Category B – a group of applicants that have already completed the 24 months of eligible Canadian work experience under NOC 4411 or 4412 on the date of the application for permanent residence

For an applicant to be eligible for an occupation-restricted open work permit under one of the pilots, they must:

  • Submit an application either via paper or online for the occupant-restricted open work permit in the same package as their application for permanent residence
  • Meet the qualification requirements under the HCCPP or HSWP
  • Hold a valid and eligible job offer
  • Be able to do the described work in the lead statement of the occupational description of the NOC
  • Pay the necessary work permit processing fee of $135 and open work permit holder fee of $100

Once the immigration office is satisfied that the eligibility requirements were met by the applicant under category A and is no longer inadmissible, an occupation-restricted open work permit will be issued. However, in some other cases, applicants under category A need to submit proof of work experience before the issuance of the work permit. The same process is followed regardless of the proof of completion of their 24 months’ experience since they were category A at the time of the submission of their application.
