IRCC Launches Global Task Force on Refugee Labour Mobility to Expand Access To Third Country Solutions
On April 6, 2022, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada introduced a task force that will build momentum for labor complementary across the globe and this is called the Global Task Force on Refugee Labour Mobility. To discuss the transformative potential of refugee labor mobility initiatives, a meeting was held along with the leaders from Canada, Australia the United Nations Refugee Agency, the International Organization for Migration, the International Chamber of Commerce, Fragomen, and Talent Beyond Boundaries, and RefugePoint. Having partnered with the same goal will make Canada continue to be a global leader when it comes to attracting international talents into the country and filling in skilled labor shortages as well as helping the economy drive-through post-pandemic recovery.
These types of initiatives help build Canada’s Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot (EMPP), a program that acknowledges the abilities and skills of refugees by removing barriers and instead of providing them help as well as their families to immigrate to Canada through the available economic programs. The said task force aims to engage with all the global stakeholders from businesses, governments, NGOs, as well as civil society for the number of new skilled refugees that are welcomed to Canada to increase, at the same time decrease the labor shortages. In addition to this, the Task Force will also arrange different activities all throughout the year to point out opportunities needed to implement as well as increase labor pathway initiatives. Also, the Task Force aims to work to better understand the policy and operational challenges that are associated with their implementation as well as to find feasible solutions to overcome them. This includes extensive collaboration to make sure that the pilot project will be able to develop into an official program. This global collaboration will help the Task Force explore more how these types of initiatives will be able to provide support to all skilled refugees who are in need of protection and at the same time provide different opportunities for them to make sure they will have a meaningful contribution to their new communities.
Through these Labor complementary pathways, attraction, as well as retention levels of newcomers in regions having acute economic, demographic as well as labor challenges, will increase. Working side by side, Global Task Force on Refugee Labour Mobility will help further in bringing boundless contributions of immigrants to the community including all sectors of the economy.
