Canada Welcomes 108,000 Plus New Permanent Residents in the First Quarter of 2022
Following the large volume of application submitted to the Canadian immigration, the Immigration, Refugees, Citizenship, and Canada has been continuously improving its services and operations, adding further resources where it is most needed, as well as streamlining processes that will help provide the best experiences that all the clients deserve.
March 31, 2021 – Minister of IRCC Sean Fraser announced that the IRCC has exceeded its goal of making 147,000 permanent residence final decisions in the first quarter of 2022 and making the number of final decisions double in the same time period compared to the previous year. Through all the efforts that Canadian immigration put into, Canada was able to welcome more than 108,000 new permanent residents to date. In connection to this, Canada has also outdone its citizenship goals for 2021 – 2022 having over 210,000 newly welcomed Canadian citizens. IRCC is in the process of modernizing and expanding its services to people who wish to become Canadian; this includes offering online testing, virtual citizenship ceremonies, as well as an online application tracker that will help the applicants stay updated on their files and application.
These achievements that Canadian immigration was able to reach were due to the ongoing commitment of the IRCC to improve client service. Supported by the additional funding of $85 million from the 2021 Economic Fiscal Update, the immigration department continues its efforts to reduce application backlogs that were accumulated during the pandemic.
