According to the new data of the Immigration, Refugees, Citizenship, and Canada, the country was able to land a total number of 35,260 new permanent residents in the month of January alone. The said data shows that Canada is off to a strong start as immigration aims to welcome more than 400,000 new immigrants for the second consecutive year.

As released the previous month, it was stated under Canada’s new Immigration Levels Plan 2022 – 2024 that the country is targeting to welcome nearly 432,000 new immigrant landings this year, making it the highest level in Canada’s history. The previous year, Canada was able to land over 405,000 new immigrants, essentially by transitioning individuals who were already living in Canada to permanent residence. It marked a record-breaking year for Canada as it was the first time since 1913 that Canada was able to land 400,000 plus immigrants.

In January, a total of 65% of the said new permanent resident landings were from the Economic Class, which is higher than the 56% stated target under the Levels Plan 2022  – 2024. Through the Family Class, Canada was able to land 20% making it lower than the 24% Levels Plan target. While 15% of landings were made under the Refugee and Humanitarian Class which is lower than the 20% Levels Plan goal.

For the Economic Class landings, the Canadian Experience Class remains to be on the lead for having almost 7,700 new immigrants. To achieve Canada’s Immigration Levels Goal, the IRCC much relied on the CEC as it was accounted for almost one-third of Canada’s new admissions. Meanwhile, the Temporary Resident to Permanent Resident (TR to PR) program holds second place for the leading economic class admissions program with 7,000 plus immigrants landing in January 2022. For the third spot, the Provincial Nominee Program takes the spot for landing 4,200 immigrants. Lastly, Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) who were able to land 2,600 new immigrants
