Alberta Immigration Announces New PNP name, programs and draw result
February 16, 2022 – Alberta Premier Jason Kenney has announced that the immigration department of the province will be changing its name as well as they will be adding two new immigration programs for Alberta. Two days after the announcement, the province released the results of the province’s Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw held earlier this month.
February 1, Alberta held its round of invites that resulted in a total of 400 invited Express Entry candidates to apply for the Alberta Express Entry stream having a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score requirement of 340 points. The said invited candidates will automatically receive 600 points that will be added to their final score which will lead them to eligibility for Express Entry PNP round invitations.
As mentioned, the province’s immigration will be changing the PNP name from Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program to Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) having two new streams called the Rural Renewal Stream and Rural Entrepreneur Stream. In addition to this, Alberta is also changing the name of its three existing entrepreneur streams:
- The International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream will now be called Graduate Entrepreneur Stream
- The Foreign Graduate Start-Up Visa Stream will now be called Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur Stream
- The Self-Employed Farmer Stream will now be called Farm Stream
Note that the eligibility criteria for the above-mentioned streams will not be changing as per Alberta’s immigration department. As per the government of Alberta, all candidates who have submitted their applications through Alberta’s online portal must request a nomination extension in the portal. If a candidate submitted their application through the online profile and wanted to request an extension, they must also submit their extension request through the portal. If the candidate submitted a paper application, they can still submit an extension application via paper as well.
