Sean Fraser: Canada’s New Immigration Minister

October 26, 2021 – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau disclosed the new cabinet members, and has been announced that Sean Fraser, a former lawyer from Nova Scotia is the new Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship.

Sean Fraser is 37 years old is a former lawyer in Nova Scotia that was elected as a Member of the Parliament way back in 2015 and was re-elected in 20219 and 2021. Fraser holds a degree in law from Dalhousie University, a Master’s degree in Public Law from Leiden University in the Netherlands, and studied Bachelor of Science at St. Francis Xavier University. The position was held by Marco Mendicino since November 2019, who is now new Canada’s public safety minister. Fraser has practiced commercial litigation and international dispute resolution before entering politics, he also represents the riding of “Central Nova” that covers some part of Halifax.

The cabinet is a body of ministerial advisors that coordinates the federal government’s priorities and policies. A mandate by the Prime Minister is given to each minister, this letter outlines all the policies as well as priorities that the Prime Minister aims for the minister to push through during the government’s time of service. With the announcement of the new cabinet members, the Liberal aims to continue governing Canada and focus on leading Canada out of the COVID-19 pandemic.
