Ontario Targets Workers, Masters and PhD Graduates in its Latest Draw
October 20, 2021 – Ontario province held its new rounds of invitations and invited a total of 546 immigration candidates to apply for provincial nomination. Candidates who had profiles submitted in the Expression of Interest (EOI) pool were invited by the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). The said invited candidates were given the opportunity and received an invitation as they may have qualified for the Master’s Graduate Stream, Ph.D. graduate stream, or for the Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker stream.
Under the Economic Mobility Pathways Project, a total of four targeted invitations were sent to immigration candidates who may qualify for the Foreign Worker stream. Specifically, the OINP invited 63 immigration candidates who may be eligible for the Ph.D. stream while 479 candidates that are international student graduates were invited to apply for the Master’s Graduate stream. As mentioned, invited candidates must have submitted a profile in Ontario’s EOI system and must meet the required score depending on the stream
- Masters Graduate stream – must at least have a minimum score of 35 points
- Ph.D. Graduates stream – must at least have a minimum score of 25 points
Since Ontario took the Expression of Interest (EOI) system for its Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) without using the Express Entry system, this will be the province’s second-largest Masters Graduate stream draw. Over a thousand international students graduate per year having a master’s degree in Ontario province while hundreds of Ph.D. graduates. With this, there are a huge number of qualified applicants who enters the EOI system for each type of degree making the draws for a master’s degree larger and requiring a higher score.
