Canada lifts travel ban from India flights starting next week
Due to the occurrence of high counts of COVID-19 cases in both Canada and India, last April 2021, Canada has temporarily stopped all direct passengers and commercial flights from India. Ever since the travel ban has been implemented, only medical transfers, cargo operations, or military flights have been accepted and allowed to travel directly between the two countries.
From a recent media release, air travelers from India will now be able to come to Canada travelers can now enter the country given that they have complied with Canada’s public health measures like quarantine and COVID-19 testing requirements starting midnight of September 27, 2021. However, flights coming directly from India will be having additional measures to follow:
- Travelers from India must present their negative COVID-19 molecular test results from any of the approved Genestrings Laboratory located at the Delhi airport. Note that the test must be taken within 18 hours of the traveler’s departure schedule going directly to Canada.
- Air operators will have to check the travel test results of the travelers before they’ll be allowed to board to make sure that they are eligible to travel and enter Canada.
- Travelers who are fully vaccinated must upload and fill out all the necessary information to the ArriveCAN application or website. Travelers who fail to do so won’t be able to board the flight.
First, three direct flights from India will arrive on September 22, 2021, and to make sure that all the new measures are correctly working, all passengers boarded on the said flight will be tested for COVID-19 upon their arrival.
