Canada plans to hold PGP 2021 lottery next week
Mid last year, the IRCC opened an online submission form for the Parents and Grandparents program, however, not everyone is eligible to submit an interest to sponsor on the IRCC’s website. Details of the PGP program were announced by Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino in July 2021. As announced, to be eligible, one must at least be 18 years old and is either a Canadian citizen, permanent resident in Canada, or be a status First Nations. Aside from that, sponsors must provide proof that they have enough money to support their loved ones which is also called Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) to which the IRCC will evaluate.
As announced by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada, they plan to hold a draw for the Parents and Grandparents (PGP) Program beginning the week of September 20 and will be inviting up to a total of 30,000 sponsors over a period of two weeks.
To be considered for this draw, one must have submitted an interest to sponsor form to the IRCC between the period of October and November 2020. Canadian citizens and eligible permanent residents had the chance to complete and submit an online application form last autumn to advise IRCC regarding their interest to sponsor their parents and grandparents. Canadian permanent status along with its benefits like free health care will be granted to all those who got sponsored through the PGP program; once the sponsor met the eligibility requirements, they can now apply for Canadian citizenship.
