Canada Now Welcomes Fully Vaccinated Tourists
September 7, 2021 – Canada has now opened its borders to all fully vaccinated tourists. It now allows fully vaccinated tourists to enter Canada, given that the dose they received was the one that Canada Health approved. All travelers who wish to enter Canada must have received two doses of either Moderna, AstraZeneca, or Pfizer, or a dose of the Janssen vaccine. Other vaccines that were not stated but are still accepted in other countries are not accepted in Canada as of now. In connection to this, the said approved vaccines must be administered to them at least 14 days prior to their arrival in Canada.
On August 9, 2021, Canada first allowed fully vaccinated American citizens to enter Canada, making this the first step of the Canadian government to warm up for the upcoming full opening of its border to all vaccinated individuals. As required by the Canadian government, all travelers who will enter the county must submit their personal as well as travel information through the ArriveCAN either mobile or web application.
All travelers must provide a pre-arrival COVID-19 molecular test result and present them regardless if they are already fully vaccinated. Aside from this, travelers must present their proof of vaccination and must not possess any symptoms of the virus. Also, through random selection, a traveler might be chosen to undergo a random COVID-19 test upon their arrival in Canada. Travelers will be exempted from the 14-day quarantine given that they have met certain requirements from the government, but they still need to prepare their quarantine plan just in case the border officer declares that they did not meet the said requirements.
Unvaccinated foreign nationals are currently not allowed to enter Canada, however, individuals whose age is 12 years old and below are allowed to enter if they are accompanied by a fully vaccinated parent or guardian. Although, if you are either a student, worker, diplomat, or any other individual whose purpose of travel is essential, then you are allowed to enter Canada but required to undergo a 14-day quarantine upon arrival.
Note that all international flights are only allowed to arrive in a limited Canadian airport. Below is the list of the said airports that are open in limited capacity:
- Toronto Pearson International Airport
- Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport
- Edmonton International Airport
- Montreal-Trudeau International Airport
- Vancouver International Airport
- Quebec City Jean Lesage International Airport
- Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport
- Calgary International Airport
- Halifax Stanfield International Airport
As of this time, flights from India are still banned until September 21, and flights from Morocco are banned until September 29. Tourists who are traveling from the said countries must have a stop at a third country and have a COVID-19 negative test result before they travel to Canada.
