Canada Citizenship Application via Online Now Accepting Applicants
August 11, 2021 – The Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada launched a new online platform that allows Canadian permanent residents to submit their applications for citizenship online. This new online application is presently open to single applicants; however, applications for families will open sometime later this year.
As of the moment, the said portal for online application is open to all single applicants over the age of 18 years old. Family applications, as well as representatives, are yet to open from the portal later this year. In connection to this, online applications are still closed for candidates living outside of Canada as well as those who are employed by the crown.
In the latter part of 2020, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada planned to make the online application available to applicants under 18 years old as well as families. Meanwhile, applications from representatives as well as crowned servants who declared their residence outside Canada are set to open in 2022.
The said online tool was released in 2020 with the aim of testing the platform’s capacity. Recently, as part of IRCC’s initiative to modernize Canada’s immigration system, they have been developing a new tool for the said purpose. With that, a new online portal is now open and available. This new online tool lets applicants save their partially completed applications and allow them to continue afterward. In addition to this, this portal allows users to upload all of the supporting documents that will be used for their application. Another new feature is it allows the user to print a PDF and ask for a receipt of confirmation.
IRCC mentioned through a media release that applicants who have already submitted their respective applications through paper would no longer need to re-apply through the new online application platform.
