Quebec Implements Measures to Help Hire and Retain TFWs
The Province of Quebec recently announced that the Canadian government is set to implement measures to help make the hiring of temporary workers in Quebec easier. With this, an agreement with Ottawa is signed to help the province address its ongoing labor shortage making Quebec the first Canadian province to do so.
Months in the making and Quebec ended up with an agreement with the Canadian federal government in implementing measures that will help all employers as well as businesses who are currently facing labor shortages. With this concurrence, Quebec becomes the first province to extend an agreement with Ottawa to help solve their current work setback. Prior to the occurrence of the global pandemic, Quebec is already facing labor shortages and has heightened in recent months due to the economic recoil.
What are the measures set that will be implemented in the next few weeks? There are three, and here are as follows:
1. Certificat de Selection du Quebec (CSQ) holders abroad ad the ones who are waiting for their permanent residence will be given a work permit;
2. They will make the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) more flexible to speed up hiring; and
3. CSQ holders who are waiting for permanent residency in Quebec will be provided with access to an open work permit.
