Quarantine Exemptions for Fully Vaccinated Travelers Begin This July
Starting midnight of July 5, 2021, quarantine exemptions for all fully vaccinated travelers will begin and they will receive the convenience of having reduced quarantine measures.
This new exemption was 24 hours earlier than the expected launch; starting July 5, 2021, at 12:01 am EST all fully vaccinated travelers entering Canada will no longer need to undergo quarantine for 14 days nor complete the day-eight test. In addition to this, said travelers who are arriving by air will no longer need to stay at a government-approved hotel to wait for their on-air arrival results. However, travelers who are arriving before the said time will not be considered for the said exemption.
Quarantine exemption measures only apply to all travelers who are eligible to travel and to enter Canada despite border restrictions. The measure is also applicable to those who have received their first dose of vaccine that is approved by Canada health, namely: Johnson and Johnson, AstraZeneca, Moderna, and Pfizer.
What are the criteria for fully vaccinated travelers? There are three (3) key points on how vaccinated travelers can benefit from the reduced public health measures that Canada’s border patrol have released:
1. All travelers must be fully vaccinated
They must have received their full dose of vaccine of a combination of the vaccines that are approved by Canada health. These include vaccines manufactured by: Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD and, Janssen
2. All travelers must be eligible to enter Canada
They must be either a permanent resident, Canadian citizen, family member, temporary foreign worker, or an international student who will attend an approved school. 3. Other criteria to be met
To be able to enter Canada, all travelers must submit mandatory information through the ArriveCAN app and provide proof of valid pre-arrival COVID-19 test.
Furthermore, travel restrictions remain in place for all travelers who are not yet fully vaccinated. They are still subject to the same measures prior to this announcement. Mandatory 14-day quarantine plan and complete testing requirements are still imposed and all air travelers will still need to wait for the results of their on-air arrival test at a government-approved hotel. Despite Canada’s border restriction’s extension until July 21, tourists are still not allowed to enter Canada as per Prime Minister Trudeau. However, once the number of fully vaccinated Canadians increased, the Canadian government could lift more restrictions in weeks to come.
