Valid CoPR Holders can now travel to Canada and become Canadian Immigrants
Approved permanent residents can now officially migrate to Canada due to Canada’s border reopening after a long 15 months. As soon as the newcomers arrive at the border they will be subject to the same health measures that will affect all incoming travelers.
Last June 21, 2021, Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino opened Canada’s border to all approved permanent residents. However, these individuals must have a Confirmation of Permanent Residency (CoPR) that was received before March 18, 2021, and those individuals holding an approved CoPR that was released after the said date are not exempted from the restrictions.
As per Canadian officials, there are a total of 23,000 released approved CoPR that are still valid up to date. And the said valid holders are now exempt from travel restrictions, and if fully vaccinated they can also skip the mandatory quarantine.
With all these being said, the final call for those who can enter Canada is still with the border officials. To help travelers prepare in advance and avoid unnecessary circumstances, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) have webpages that have official information and offers other resources such as online travel restriction tool. In connection to this, travelers can contact Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) if there are questions they need to ask.
