Holders of Confirmation of Permanent Residence (CoPR) Can Now Enter Canada
As of today, June 21, 2021 all Confirmation of Permanent Residence valid holders can now enter Canada as announced by the Canadian government earlier today at 10:00 am (EST).
Applicants who have been approved by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship (IRCC) to migrate to Canada have been issued CoPR, which means each individual has met the program criteria of IRCC, completely paid their fees, passed the health standards and criminality screening as well as security. With the said CoPR, they are now set to travel to Canada and begin a new chapter of their life.
A total number of 23,000 valid CoPR holders were not able to travel to Canada due to the pandemic. With that, the Canadian government implemented COVID-19 travel restrictions in March 2020. Up to this date only valid holders of CoPR issued on or before March 18, 2020, are exempt from Canada’s COVID-19 travel restrictions. Valid CoPR holders that were issued after March 18, 2020, can only come to Canada if they met one of Canada’s other travel exemptions or a US resident and moving to Canada permanently.
Valid CoPR holders, however, are not exempted from Canada’s travel rules. They still need to follow travel rules upon arrival such as 14-days quarantine. However, as announced by the Canadian government today, individuals that were fully vaccinated will be exempted from the quarantine requirement.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is in the works to re-issue new CoPR to individuals who hold expired CoPRs.
