Canadian Government Extends Travel Restrictions until July 21

June 18, 2021 Friday – Via Twitter, Canada’s Minister of Public Safety, Bill Blair confirms the extension of travel restrictions on non-essential international travels until July 21, 2021.

Travel restrictions on the Canadian border expired today and prior to this day, questions were asked by many if the said restriction will be lifted or yet again be extended. This topic has been the talk by many, hits leaked to the media, but still, officials stayed silent.

Canada’s Prime Minister, Justine Trudeau has maintained what he said about restrictions will not tone down until 75% of Canadians have been vaccinated. With this, Prime Minister Trudeau suggested that the border would be re-opened in phases. As of now, 8% of Canada’s population has been fully vaccinated and about 60% received their first dose.

In connection to this, Canada’s Health Minister Patty Hajdu mentioned that mandatory quarantine could start reducing as early as the first week of July. As for new arrivals to Canada, they could get out of quarantine as soon as their COVID-19 test results to negative; however, they will still be continuing their mandatory 14-day quarantine requirement but in the comfort of their final destination. Health Minister Hajdu also suggested that this measure would apply to all Canadian permanent residents and citizens who have been fully vaccinated with one of the four vaccines that were approved in Canada, namely: Johnson & Johnson, Astra Zeneca, Moderna, and Pfizer.

As to child travelers and those who are not yet old, enough to get vaccinated, official protocols have not been released. Chief Public Health Officer Theresa Tam suggested at a conference that rules will be different for the people who are traveling with minors.
