Permanent Residence Pathway Opens for Hong Kong Residents
Ottawa Minister Mendicino announced the opening of another public policy with two (2) new pathways for permanent residency opportunities exclusively for Hong Kong residents on June 8, 2021. The new pathways will offer permanent residency for all eligible Hong Kong residents that are currently in Canada who are either workers or a recent graduate from the country.
The new pathways – Stream A (In-Canada Graduates) and Stream B (Canadian Work Experience) – opened last June 1, 2021, and will continue until August 31, 2026. Applicants under this public policy must hold a valid passport from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China or from the United Kingdom to a British National (as a person born, naturalize, or registered in Hong Kong). They must also have valid temporary resident status and must be in Canada when they submit their application as well as when their PR is approved or granted.
Applicants under Stream A must provide a copy of their diploma or degree and final transcripts from a designated learning institution in Canada in the last 3 years. On the other hand, Stream B applicants must provide both a copy of their diploma or degree and final transcripts plus an educational credential assessment (ECA) if the applicant graduated from a post-secondary school outside Canada. To prove their employment, they must prove that they have a valid job in Canada with an employment letter, T4, copies of records of employment, pay stubs, and/or copies of bank deposits showing salary payments, if applicable.
In addition to this, eligible candidates must meet the specified language, work, education, and eligibility requirements; and they are subject to Canada’s screening process and immigration application.
