New Temporary Public Policy for Construction Workers in GTA opens in July
Following the immense success of the Temporary Public Policy for International Students and Essential Workers, the Immigration department of Canada will open another public policy for temporary residents particularly construction workers around the GTA area. The public policy will prioritize out-of-status construction workers to have the chance to permanently reside in Canada.
Out-of-status construction workers in the city of Toronto, Durham Region, Halton Region, Peel Region and York Region are invited to apply to the new public policy that will take effect on July 30, 2021. Only 500 candidates plus their family members are invited to apply until January 2, 2024 or once 500 principal applicants and their accompanying family members have been granted permanent residence, whichever comes first.
The immigration department considers the contribution of long-term resident construction workers in the Canadian economy. The opening of the temporary public policy will definitely address the vulnerable position of these temporary workers as they lack immigration status. Canada immigration sees a demand in skilled trades especially in the construction business in the GTA area over the next several years. The temporary public policy does not only pave the way for permanent residency but also for construction workers to benefit from workplace regulations especially health and safety inspections.
