Temporary Immigration Program Possible to Re-open

 In News

Following the overwhelming response of temporary residents in the previous immigration program for international graduates and essential workers, Minister Marco Mondacino of the Canada Immigration hinted a possibility that the program might open after careful assessments of its result.

The quality of applications received plus the rate of how quick the capacity was reached is included in the department’s assessments.

Notably, the international graduates stream for this particular program reached its max cap of 40,000 applicants in 24 hours while other streams such as the essential and health care workers stream is currently receiving more than 10,000 applications and will stop accepting once it reaches its max cap of 50,000. These streams, however, are open until November 2021 or until the max cap has been reached.

The temporary immigration program is still part of the Canada government’s efforts to achieve its goal to attract more permanent residents to migrate and to continue their life in the country. Apart from these, this is one way to help the country recover from the effects of the pandemic.

The Canada government has stated before that they aim to welcome at least 400,000 immigrants per year and strategies such as the temporary immigration program for international graduates and essential and health care workers are paving the way to reach this goal.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) just released data last week that Canada admitted more than 70,000 new immigrants only for the first quarter this year which is much higher than the previous number of new immigrants accepted last year during the pandemic.
